The site risk assessment register is a living document and will be updated and reviewed during the project duration by the Site Manager and Regional Manager – this will then be shared with the client. By successfully identifying the significant hazards, using a construction site assessment, within your project, your construction site will be not only satisfying the requirements of legislation, but will ensure the Health & Safety of employees.

What is a Risk Assessment?

A risk assessment is a systematic examination of a task, job or process that you carry out at work for the purpose of;

• Identifying the significant hazards that are present (a hazard is something that has the potential to cause someone harm or ill health).
• Deciding if what you have already done reduces the risk of someone being harmed to an acceptable level, and if not;
• Deciding what further control measures you must take to reduce the risk to an acceptable level.

Ergonomics is a science concerned with the ‘fit’ between people and their work. It puts people first, taking account of their capabilities and limitations. An Ergonomic Assessment UK aims to make sure that tasks, equipment, information and the environment fit each worker.

Some examples of ergonomically assessable issues could be:

• Manual handling - too heavy or bulky load to be safely handled by a person
• Design of tasks - Badly designed machinery guards
• Workstation layout - Chair not properly adjusted to fit the person and workstation

A construction site visit risk assessment should always be carried out by a person who is experienced and competent to do so. Competence can be expressed as a combination of knowledge, awareness, training, and experience. If necessary, consult a more experienced member of staff or external professional to help assist with the risk assessment.
